Philadelphia Association of Black Journalists (PABJ) honors area journalists for their outstanding contributions to the industry and also recognizes community leaders for their efforts to enhance the quality of life in the Delaware & Lehigh Valleys.

This year’s PABJ Award honorees are:

2015 Broadcast Journalist of the Year: Berlinda Garnett, an Emmy Award-winning producer for FOX 29 News, is being honored for her distinguished body of news, investigative and special project stories.

2015 Impact Award: Anzio Williams, the news director at NBC10 is being honored for his exemplary record as a news executive who has expanded diversity in news coverage, and newsroom staffing on-air and behind the scenes.

2015 Lifetime Achievement Award: Barbara Grant, a founding principal of Cardenas Grant Communications, Grant is being honored for a 40-year career in communications during which she has combined a deft expertise in strategic communications with award-winning journalism at news outlets including WDAS, WURD, FOX 29, Channel 3, and The Philadelphia Inquirer.

2015 Community Service Award: Dr. Tammy Evans-Colquitt, founder of Prep Institute and Image and Attitude, Evans-Colquitt is being honored for her development of a community organization that has helped more than 17,000 low-income residents transition from welfare or homelessness to work and stability.

2015 Community Service Award: Kenneth Scott, president of Beech Companies, is being honored for his work with a firm that has built more than 12-hunred units of affordable and moderately-priced housing in North Central Philadelphia while leveraging over $1 billion in economic and community development in that neighborhood.

PABJ will honor its Award winners at its Awards & Scholarship Reception on Saturday, October 17, 2015 from 6 to 10:30 p.m., at WHYY Studios, 6th Street between Arch & Race Streets, Philadelphia. Tickets for the awards program and reception are $65.00 and benefit PABJ’s student scholarships, journalism training workshops and community programming.
