The Philadelphia Association of Black Journalists (PABJ) is a non-profit organization based in Philadelphia, Pa. PABJ formed in 1973 to address issues surrounding coverage of people in black communities and a scarcity of black journalists in the region's newsrooms. The small, but inspired group of journalists that organized later became the backbone of a group that assembled in Washington, D.C. two years later to create the National Association of Black Journalists. PABJ became NABJ's founding chapter.
PABJ continues to advocate for fair and inclusive coverage and diverse hiring in newsrooms. PABJ also offers an annual media access workshop for community members, offers scholarships to students pursuing journalism careers and offers supportive workshops to professional journalits.
